For employer-providers

Deliver your own apprenticeships with a provider's record, not a provider's overhead.

An employer that delivers its own apprenticeships takes on the ILR, the funding rules, off-the-job evidence, quality assurance and gateway. Journey gives an L&D team the connected record a training provider would have, without needing an MIS department.

The duties are the same as a training provider's. The team is usually smaller and closer to the apprentice. Journey is built for that shape.

The duties, on one record

  • Enrolment and eligibility checked against the funding rules for the start date, with the apprenticeship agreement and training plan signed in the app.
  • Off-the-job hours logged by the apprentice and confirmed by the line manager, against the requirement, with shortfalls flagged early.
  • Progress reviews with the line manager signing as the employer in the app, so the review and the signature are one entry.
  • Evidence mapped to the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard, with assessor feedback.
  • ILR and levy built and reconciled from the record: returns R01 to R14, agreed price, apprenticeship service cohorts, committed spend by cohort and standard.
  • Quality assurance with sampling, observations and actions on the record, and self-assessment evidence for inspection.
  • Gateway and end-point assessment read from the record, with a one-click hand-over where the assessment organisation runs Meritura.

HR, line managers and the apprentice

Employees and line managers are imported from the HR system and kept in step. Line managers get an employer view: reviews to sign, hours to confirm, progress to see. Apprentices get a mobile-first portfolio and off-the-job log. The L&D team sees everything on one record with a named audit trail.

Questions the board asks

With Talk to Journey in Journey Advanced, the head of L&D can ask how much levy is committed by standard, which cohorts are behind plan on off-the-job hours, which line managers have unsigned reviews, and which apprentices are approaching gateway with an item outstanding, and get the answer with sources. AI included; no autonomous changes.

Questions providers ask

  • What is an employer-provider?

An employer that delivers apprenticeship training to its own staff and is on the register to do so, usually funded from its own levy account. It carries the same delivery, evidence, ILR and quality duties as a training provider.

  • Can HR and the L&D team use Journey without MIS experience?

Yes. Journey is built around the learner record and plain workflows: enrol, plan, log hours, review, evidence, assure, gateway. The ILR is built from the record rather than assembled by an MIS specialist, and Talk to Journey answers questions in plain English.

  • Does Journey work with our HR system?

Employees, line managers and job roles can be imported from the HR system, and Journey keeps the HR reference on the record. Line managers sign progress reviews as employers in the app.

  • How does levy management work in Journey?

The agreed price, the levy route and the apprenticeship service reconciliation sit on each learner's funding record, so the L&D lead can see committed levy spend by cohort and standard from the same record that builds the ILR.
