Karan Kumar, founder of Journey.
Karan Kumar is the founder of Journey. He spent 25 years in technology, the last 15 in cybersecurity, and then bought and ran an apprenticeship training provider.
One record. A shared direction.
Karan Kumar founded Journey after running an apprenticeship training provider himself.
He spent 25 years in technology. For the last 15 of those he worked in cybersecurity: secure coding, application security and infrastructure. Then he bought a training provider and ran it for several years.
The provider paid for a well-known apprenticeship platform. It still ran on spreadsheets and shared drives. When Ofsted arrived in January the team went back to Excel because the platform could not show what inspectors asked for. Karan's own login gave him no director view of his provision. The inspection did not go well.
That experience is why Journey exists: one connected learner record for delivery, funding, ILR, quality and gateway, so a director can see the position without asking someone to build a report.
Karan writes the guides on this site from that experience and from the published DfE, DWP, Ofsted and Skills England documents each guide cites. He is not a lawyer or a funding auditor; the guides say when a rule is confirmed and when it is not.
